Red Cloth. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Second Edition. Red Cloth. Good/No Jacket. Second Edition. Hardback. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. 314 pages, plus 6 p. index, plus 5 p. book ads; frontispiece of Madame Tussaud and photos of many of the museum's exhibits; Preface by William E. Hurt, who gives information on the Tussaud family and genealogical details; 'The Romance of Madame Tussaud's' is written by the foundress's great-grandson, who carries on the family business, begun in France in the 1780's. Madame Tussaud's wax works is a word-famous institution still carried on in London, and being placed in the gallery bestows a matchless recognition of celebrity. From p.41 of John Theodore Tussaud's account: "It must be remembered that the "romance" of Madame Tussaud's began in the French capital one hundred and fifty years ago. As we view to-day the quaint little figure of Madame which stands in the Exhibition she helped to found in France and established in this country, we must imagine her in the full vigour of her young womanhood, sensible to the dangers and terrors of the Revolution in which she was about to be involved." Book condition: The spine cover has faded considerably; Book edges have darkened to a pale tan color; endpapers likewise, show some darkening in the margins, and to a lesser extent on the pages top and bottom through the text. Otherwise, book is in nice condition.
