The Canadian Championship brings together the top players of Canada in a round-robin tournament. The tournament has been held 62 times since the First championship in 1872. The winner is Canada's representative at the interzonal, the next level in the cycle leading to the World Championship. The top four finishers in the Championship take places on the Canadian team at the 1978 Olympics. Sixteen player participated in this tournament. Jean Hebert captured first and became the Canadian's representative to the interzonal with 11 points. Peter Biyiasas was second with 10. Third was a three way tie a half point behind between Camille Coudari, Kevin Spraggett and Lawrence Day with 9.5. Another three tied for sixth Bryon Nickoloff, Irwin Lipnowski and Leon David Piasetski all with 9 points. Michael K Rohland captured sole ninth with 8 points. Condition: Wrappers rubbed, corners bumped and creased else a very good copy.
