Ello se debió más a una casualidad que a una intención creativa premeditada: al parecer, en los primeros años de emigración neoyorquina de Wittlin, se le ocurrió al poeta Jan Lechon la idea de crear un panorama literario de ciudades perdidas; desgraciadamente, el proyecto no pasó del texto de Wittlin. Alguien definió Mi Lvov como una obra maestra del ensayo autobiográfico, una declaración amorosa. Sin embargo, el planteamiento de Wittlin parece ser mucho más complejo y peculiar. Mi Lvov es un texto polifacético. Todo él es una lección de baile sobre una cuerda. Mantiene un equilibrio inestable entre la ternura y la broma, entre el afecto y el chiste, incluso entre la autocompasión y la ironía hacia uno mismo.
