With a sheet of 'Cavalier Lyrics' also tipped-in to the same page, dated 1887, from J. W. Ebsworth, who provided additional notes and illustrations to the work.With the ink inscription of John Mercer to Volume I and additional ballads from the Kentish Gazette, handwritten and tipped-in to the front blank of Volume II. This collection is comprised of Kentish ballads taken from manuscripts, old ballad collections and newspapers, with a selection of works from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century, with notes and vignette illustrations to accompany. Compiled by Julia H. L. De Vaynes, with notes and illustrations by J. W. Ebsworth. Bound by Morrell in half calf with cloth boards. Externally, lovely, with a little rubbing to the spine and joints. Internally, firmly bound. Renewed endpapers, bound with the half titles. With additional sheets and letters tipped-in at the front of each volume. Binders stamp to the verso of the front endpaper.
