First Edition
Trade Paperback. Condition: Fine. First Edition. 80 Pages. This is a staple bound book and a revised edition with a ranch scene on the cover. No defects noted and interior pages are bright tight, and white. Illustrated throughout with black and white family photographs and ranch scenes. This book is the true story of the Jeter family their background in the South and in Texas, Charley's life as a cowboy and the family's journey west in a covered wagon. The story continues as the Jeters homestead in southern New Mexico and later lived and ranched at Ladron in the mountains near Socorro. Charley had married Hattie Delilah in 1925. Hattie had a daughter, Lily Mae, by a previous marriage. Bobbie June, the author of this book, was born in Lamesa, Texas on May 28, 1931. In 1934 after a farmhouse fire that destroyed most of their possessions Charley and Hattie moved west in a covered wagon. They trailed horses and mules and about forty head of cattle. In Hattie's travel diary she noted Bobbie June's third birthday and she baked a birthday cake in the dutch oven. By the middle of June they had reached Cloudcroft. Their journey took a long six months and by fall they had arrived at their destination and Charley filed his claim to his homestead - one day before the deadline. The remaining pages carry the Jeter's family up to Charley's death in 1954. The last 21 pages are called Reminiscences that are filled with photographs and several pages of very good poetry by Bobby June, the very talented author of this little tome Jeters of Ladron.
