Add to basketHardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First Edition Thus. 1953. First UK edition thus. xxiv, 563pp. and 270 black and white illustrations. This book is Volume 12 of the Collected Works of C.J. Jung, translated by R.F.C. Hull, and the first to appear. In this volume Jung works out in great detail the analogies between alchemy, Christian dogma and symbolism on the one hand, and the dreams and visions of a contemporary scientist on the other. The work has a particular importance because it is the point of departure for the author's later researches and publications. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with a bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with light foxing on the fore edge of the text block. There is no inscription. The unclipped dustwrapper has shelf wear with some soiling and a faint water stain on about 2" of the top of the front spine edge. About 1/8" is missing from the top of the spine and slightly larger pieces are missing from the bottom of the spine and top front edge. The corners are chipped and there are a few small tears on the edges that have been repaired on the reverse with tape. The wrapper is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover. PLEASE NOTE: This is a fairly heavy book and extra postage may be required for delivery outside the UK.

'Nine essays of general rather than technical interest comprise this new volume in the collected edition of the late Swiss psychologist's writings. In these papers, written between 1922 and 1941, Jung's attention was directed mainly to the qualities of personality that enabled the creative spirit to introduce radical innovations into realms as diverse as medi-cine, psychoanalysis, Oriental studies, the visual arts, and literature. Essays on Paracelsus, Freud, the sinologist Richard Wilhelm, Picasso, and Joyce's Ulysses are supplemented by two others that consider artistic creativity generally and explore its source in archetypal structures.' The volumes feature translations commissioned by the Bollingen Foundation from Richard Francis Carrington Hull.
