    Leather. Condition: Good. None (illustrator). A small collection of the anonymously published, 'Letters of Junius'. Including an engraved frontispiece. The collection was published in two volumes in 1772 by Henry Sampson Woodfall, the owner and editor of a London newspaper, the Public Advertiser. In a half-morocco binding. Externally, sound, though with some slight wear to the extremities. Joints are cracked. Internally, firmly bound. Bookplate to front pastedown, with ink signature to front free-endpaper. Pages are bright and clean, with just the odd spot. Good. book.

The letters were critical of the government of King George III, a riveting political commentary of the Georgian era.This edition contains 'Dedication to the English Nation', supporting republicanism and freedom of the press.Volume I illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and eleven plates. Collated, complete.Volume II illustrated with a frontispiece, vignette title page, and seven plates. Collated, bound without one plate, the portrait of the Earl of Chatham.Vignette title pages are dated 1797 but the title pages are dated 1801.Sir Philip Francis is now generally considered to be 'Junius', though this is not universally agreed on.Bookplate of David Davidson to the front paste downs.Contents in Volume I is misbound before the dedication.Two pages of adverts to the rear of Volume II. In a full marbled calf binding. Externally, smart. Light rubbing to the spines and joints. Minor bumping to the extremities. Small patch of rubbing to the rear board of Volume I. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Front hinge of Volume I is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age toned and generally clean with the occasional spot.
