Ex-library embossed stamps on intermittent papers throughout the book. Lots of black and white line drawings with a fabulous sketch of the tudor Queen Elizabeth to the front of the book behind a rice- papered page. Generally, a very good, clean and solid lovely copy with back index. Synopsis: Contents are divided into 7 chapters entitled: "Before Shakespeare: - discussing old historical romances such as Beowulf, Chaucer, and the development of printing.
