Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.

Berlin: self-published, [1964]?1967. Quartos (29 × 20 cm). Original pictorial wrappers, two issues with additional printed wraparound band; between 41 and 106 pp. with numerous interleaved art supplements, such as full-page lithographs, reproductions of drawings, and photographic pictures of sculptures. About very good. Five issues of the extraordinarily rare West Berlin art and literature journal, which was only printed in 180 to 350 copies. It provides an insight into the student cultural debates before the events of 1968. It is no coincidence that the periodical ceased publication in 1967. The editor Peter Neitzke ? who as an architect later edited the important book series "Bauwelt Fundamente" (Bauwelt Foundations) ? was one of the leading members of the SDS and later one of the founders of the Maoist KPD/AO. After his political time, Neitzke became one of the pioneers of postmodernism in the German-speaking world. Thus he was involved in the publication on a translation of Robert Venturi's "Learning from Las Vegas". He gained his first publishing experience with the small periodical "Das Heft" while studying under Oswald Mathias Ungers at the Technical University in Berlin. Nevertheless, architecture hardly played a role in the journal (with a few exceptions). Neitzke, who also wrote novels in his old age, published short prose texts and also dealt with literature theoretically. One of the exceptions was the publication of drawings by the Hungarian architect and sculptor Berna von Sartory, who was involved in an architectural competition at the Technical University of Berlin at the time. His building for the Department of Mathematics is one of the early examples of solar architecture and ecological construction. The main subjects of the journal were prose, poetry, and graphics. Sculptor Heinz Otterson, who was known in Berlin for his metal constructions made from scrap metal using a welding machine, was responsible for the graphic design. Other pictorial contributions come mainly from Berlin artists, such as the German pop artist Werner Berges, the sculptors Erich Reischke, Karl Heinz Droste and Joseph Henry Lonas, the painters Karl Heinz Krüll and Hans-Joachim Speßhardt and the representative of New Realism Hans-Jürgen Diehl. The last issue highlights the politicization of cultural debates in West Berlin in 1969. While the previous issues brought together various contributions that fitted in well with the concept, the double issue 8/9 was published as the "Braun Heft" (Brown Issue), which dealt with the ideological and personal continuity between Nazi Germany and West Germany.Fischer/Dietzel 461.As of June 2024, OCLC shows four holdings in North America, apparently only one of them complete.
