Soft cover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. The wacky wonderful world of Peter Karassik in drawings! And it's a coloring book too. By In the 60's there were art students brought to my attention by my friend and fellow poet William (Latif) Harris who had come to New Mexico to study with Robert Creeley. There was John Czerkowitz, John Taggart, and Lora Linsley in the area. And Peter Karassik, tall sculptor of playful creativity. I remember huge pieces of cottonwood logs arranged (I couldn t figure out how) as large sculpture pieces in various park spaces on the University grounds. Peter managed to assemble these dolmen-like sculptures that were much larger than himself. Over his bed he d hung a zoo of creatures he made and told me, laughing, that his dog got to them and chewed them up! Peter brought creative cartoon characters to life in his drawings, and it is a world you can enter and explore as the creatures and humans and human-animal likes live their lives, products of his imagination. I was impressed at his endless sober humor - as I recall, he didn t drink - and was always relaxed and witty and laughing at the absurdities he would bring to your awareness things which were always there in the environment or or coming to life on his art pages. So much in real life and art are coming to witty realization when you are with Peter Karassik. Placitas Community Library is a small, rural library located in an unincorporated area.
