The earliest of them date to the Second Intermediate Period, the majority belong to the New Kingdom and several blocks of Taharka of the XXVth Dynasty form the latest group. The second objective of the present work is to restore the history of Faras during the Pharaonic Period on the basis of the known objects and the other evidence available to the author. In this task reference is also made to the uninscribed objects (amulets, figurines, etc.) as well as the architectural remains of the same period which are known from Griffith's published report and/or documented by the author in Khartoum, London and Oxford.
