Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. FIRST PRINTING. A memoir of Charles Fancis Donnelly the champion and counsel for Catholics vs the anti-Catholic element of Massachusetts in their 1888-89 attempt to destroy and eliminate Catholic schools. From the Preface of Amy Collins Donnelly: "This book had its germ in the proposition advocated by me during my husband's lifetime of publishing an epitomized report of trhe proceedings before the Legislature of Massachusetts during gthe years 1888-1889, which led to the undisputed legal establishment of the rights of Catholics to maintain private parochial schools in the Commonwealth. As the success which Mr. Donnelly achieved in this instance is considered by jurists as epoch making, not alone for Massachusetts, but for the whole United States as well. I feel know, more than ever, that it is my duty to preserve a record of his work in an easily accessible form for reference. My lasting regret will ever be that this was not done during Mr. Donnelly's lifetime and under his direct supervision." Burgundy cloth binding with gold gilt lettering on front cover and spine. 265 pages. *NOTE: Book has an extensive 'The Republic 1908 article published on Donnelly on the occassion of his death laid-in. A VERY GOOD, CLEAN, TIGHT, SCHOLAR/COLLECTOR-WORTHY COPY! LG4.

Seller: Autumn Leaves Books, Crown Point, IN, U.S.A.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Cameron, Katherine (illustrator). There is no edition or print information on copy right page; It does state: 'Printed in Great Britain by Thomas Nelson and Sons, LTD". and that this is a "Told to the Children Series". We researched this on OpenLIbrary and used a publication date of 1910 found for this issue. This would make this book 115+ years old. Extremely unusual to find a children's book this old in excellent condition. See pictures. This book size is approximately 5" W by 6" L.; it has eight full page colored illustrations to accompany three stories. The illustrations are in the style of Art Nouveaou; very beautiful on their own glossy pages. Pages have a thicker cottony feel and have browned due to age. Binding is firm. No loose signatures. There are NO creases nor any writing. There are a few pages with closed tears and chipping on the pages that were uncut at publication. One fold remains uncut. Red illustrated cloth covered boards are clean and bright despite no DJ. Back cover is soil spotted and there is edge wear, with lightly bumped corners. Light sunning to spine but lettering on cover and spine is i very readable. This is NOT an ex-lib nor a remainder. See pictures.
