Alla Constitution dell'Anno III testo cardine del Direttorio, che segna il superamento della stagione giacobina più radicale seguono la Costituzione della Repubblica Cisalpina (Milano, Galeazzi) e il progetto costituzionale ligure del 1797, espressioni tipiche delle cosiddette "repubbliche sorelle", dove il lessico della sovranità popolare si intreccia a un evidente impianto istituzionale derivato da Parigi. I due codici di Guichard sulla Justice de paix, stampati ad Avignone nel 1791, offrono il versante tecnico-giudiziario del nuovo ordine: modulistica, competenze, decreti applicativi. Chiude l'istruzione militare di Kellermann, pubblicata a Genova nell'Anno I della Libertà Ligure, che traduce in ambito operativo la disciplina dell'esercito rivoluzionario. Il volume, così composto, restituisce un vero e proprio "corpus" della rifondazione statale tra 1791 e 1797: costituzione politica, ordinamento giudiziario e organizzazione militare riuniti in un'unica legatura, probabilmente destinata a un funzionario, magistrato o ufficiale operante nelle nuove strutture repubblicane. Nomination au commandement des Gardes Nationales des départements des Haut et Bas-Rhin. Général de Division, Schaal, Maire de la Ville de Schlestatt (Sélestat).  Signé Kellermann, en qualité de Maréchal d'Empire, sénateur, membre du grand conseil de la Légion d'Honneur, commandant en chef de l'armée de réserve et les Gardes Nationales des 5e et 26e divisions militaires. Mayence, quartier général, le 29.09.1806."Vous vous rendrez aussitôt cette | lettre reçue à Strasbourg où vous vous concerterez | avec M. Le Conseiller d'Etat, Préfet, pour | la formation et organisation des compagnies | de grenadiers et chasseurs de la Garde Nationale | qui doivent, aussitôt organisées, se rendre à Mayence | où vous les suivrez."Sénateur le 24 décembre 1799 avec la sénatorerie de Colmar, grand-cordon de la Légion d'honneur en l'an X et maréchal d'Empire le 20 mai 1804, il commanda à partir de 1806 des armées de réserve. L'Empereur nomma Kellermann duc de Valmy, le 3 juin 1808. François Christophe Kellermann, Duc de Valmy (Strasbourg 1735 - Paris 1820). Transmission d'un ordre à un major. Général de Division, Schaal, commandant de la 26e division.  Signé le Duc de Valmy, en qualité de Maréchal d'Empire, sénateur, commandant en chef de l'armée de réserve du Rhin et d'observation de l'Elbe. Hanau, le 20.05.1809. "Général, cijoint ma lettre pour | Mr le Major du 5e Régiment | de cuirassier, que vous voudrez bien | lui remettre en lui recommandant | de se rendre au plutot à Hanau | avec le détachement de son | régiment." Kellermann était commandant le corps d'observation de l'Elbe à Hanau à partir du 8 mai 1809. Schaal venait fraîchement de recevoir le commandement de la 26e division militaire au moment de la réception de cette lettre. François-Ignace Schaal est né à Sélestat le 5 décembre 1747. "Après le 18 brumaire (9 nov. 1799), Schaal fut nommé maire de Schlestadt et élu député par le Sénat conservateur, en 1808. Il ne fut remis en activité qu'en 1809, où il reçut le commandement de la 26e division militaire (8 mai). Dans les années 1812 et 1813, il commandait la division militaire à Mayence." Il mourut dans sa ville natale le 30 août 1833. Le général Schaal est enterré au cimetière de Sélestat.
