A stereoview photo that shows a beautiful picturesque scene of Mirror Lake in Yosemite Valley, California. Mt. Watkins and the surrounding trees are also pictured in the photo. Printed text on front and back. Printed text on back includes a brief description of Yosemite Valley and a quote by John Muir in which he describes the glacial forces that shaped Yosemite. Printed text in left margin on front: "Keystone View Company; Manufacturers; Publishers; Copyrighted; Made in U.S.A." Title printed in bottom margin on front below right image. Printed in right margin: "Meadville, Pa., New York, N.Y., Portland, Oregon, London, Eng., Sydney, Aus." The Keystone View Company was a major American distributor of stereoviews. It was founded by Benneville Lloyd Singley (1864-1938), also known as B. L. Singley, an American photographer. Singley was formerly a salesman who had worked for Underwood & Underwood, another major stereoview company. Keystone's origins date back to 1892 after Meadville experienced a catastrophic flood and Singley took photos of the disaster and sold them as prints. Keystone was incorporated in 1905. By that same year, Keystone was the most prominent stereoview company in the world. From 1915-1921, the company purchased the stock of nearly all of its competitors. By 1935, Keystone had about two million negatives in its inventory. Singley retired in 1936, but two of his longtime employees, Charles E. Crandall and George E. Hamilton purchased Keystone's stock and took over the company. After Crandall passed in 1956 and Hamilton passed in 1962, Keystone was bought by Mast Development Company in 1963. Keystone remained active until 1972 when Gifford Mast shut down the Meadville plant.

Board is clean and intact overall but has slight darkening on front and back, smudges and marks on back, and some dampstaining limited to bottom edges and a bit of the side edges on back. A Very Good copy. A stereoview photo that shows a scenic wintry view of Niagara Falls in New York. Many people wearing dark clothing have gathered in the area to take in the sights of Niagara Falls. The waterfalls, somewhat in the background and to the left side of the image, appear to still be flowing. Mist rises from behind the cliff's edge in back. About half of the composition from the bottom edge shows snowy ground and a slight slope to the left. Many people are visible in the snow-covered area. Printed text on front of board. Printed text in left margin: "Keystone View Company, Manufacturers and Publishers." Title printed below right image. Printed text in right margin: "Meadville, Pa.; St. Louis, Mo., Copyright 1899 by B. L. Singley." The Keystone View Company was one of the most prominent stereoview distributors in the United States. Its origins can be traced back to 1892 when founder and photographer Benneville Lloyd Singley (1864-1938), also known as B. L. Manufacturing was based in Meadville, but branch offices were eventually established nationwide. In 1963, Keystone was purchased by Mast Development Company, but in 1972, the Meadville manufacturing site was shuttered which brought an end to the company.
