Sir Nigel is a historical novel set during the early phase of the Hundred Years' War, spanning the years 1350 to 1356, first published in serial form during 1905-06. It is the background story to Doyle's earlier novel The White Company (1891), and describes the early life of that book's hero Nigel Loring, a knight in the service of King Edward III in the first phase of the Hundred Years' War. The character is loosely based on the historical knight Neil Loring.

With a frontis. and three (3) plates done in sepia tones by The Kinneys, and a text map of the island on p. 60. The island is real - Mangaia Island in the Cook Group. This book is in my inventory and the images are of this particular item. *** Bound in dark red cloth boards and spine with pale yellow painted letters on the front cover and on spine. Moderate wear on edges, a bit more pronounced at corners and spine ends, moderate soil overall. About ¼ of paint has flaked off on front cover, spine sunned with lettering now faint.
