"Kinsky began his career as an antiquarian books dealer, becoming the assistant of Albert Kopfermann at the Berlin State Library in 1908. He gained his PhD in 1925 in Cologne, writing his thesis about wind instruments. He became Privatdozent of musicology at the University of Cologne, teaching from 1921 to 1932, and curator of the Wilheim Heyer Museum of Music History. Kinsky was an acknowledged specialist of musical instruments and their history and had written the 1910-1916 catalogue of the museum. Being the son of a Jewish businessman, Kinsky was persecuted by the Nazis, which lead to the forced termination of his career as an academic, and the forced possession of his private library and collection. Kinsky then served a year in a labour camp until 1945, with the Allied Victory of World War Two. Kinsky spent the rest of his life from 1945 onwards compiling Das Werk Beethovens, a thematic index of all of the works of Ludwig van Beethoven. Although Kinsky died before finishing the work, the unfinished volume was purchased by the Bavarian State Library, and was eventually completed by musicologist Hans Halm. " (from Wikipedia).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Erster Band. 478 pages. In German. 'Besaitete Tasteninstrumente, Orgeln u. orgelartige Instrumente, Friktionsinstrumente.' 'Herausgegeben vom Besitzer des Museums, Wilhelm Heyer. Kommissions-Verlag von Breitkopf & Hartel in Leipzig. Druck von Bachem in Cöln.' I don't speak German. I don't see any reference to the edition. I assume that this is the First Edition. 1910, the year it was first published, is at the bottom of the title page, and at the end of the Foreword. It's the First Volume of what was apparently a 2 volume set. Someone is selling the second volume ($540.00) published in 1912. Wilhelm Heyer died in 1913. The condition of this book is excellent. You can see the covers, maroon with pebbled leather, in the photos provided. They are in very nice condition. They have very little wear. There is one dark spot on the spine between 'Katalog' and 'des'. The gilt lettering on both the front and spine is very bright. I turned over every single page in the book. The pages are exceptionally clean (I saw one small spot) and in excellent condition. There are no markings. No attachments. No tears. No loss. I saw one small corner crease. Underneath the publishing information at the bottom of the title page the words 'Printed In Germany' are neatly penciled in very small letters. One could likely erase that without leaving any mark. There is NO other writing of any kind to be found on any page in the book. Importantly, this book is very solidly bound from cover to cover. There are no binding issues. In turning over the pages, I counted 128 with illustrations. These illustrations are within a large beige backgrounded square that is bordered at the margin in white. There also five inlaid illustrations, including the frontispiece, all on a thicker paper. I've provided photos of one of the 128 and of one of the 5. They are ALL in excellent condition. It is clear that this book has always been very well taken care of. That is certainly the case for the years that I've owned it as well. I'm providing a partial Google Translate of what I have just written in English. Hopefully it will not be too ridiculous. There is a limit on how many letters or words I can place in this description but you can Google translate the English yourself. Also, note that due to the weight of the book it will have to be shipped Priority overseas.
