Oblong 8vo (postcard). 1 page. Paradoxically inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Ich kann Ihnen leider mein Autogramm nicht schicken [.]". - A founding member of the Munich Secession, Kirchner was a prominent Art Nouveau artist starting out as a landscape painter in the Dachau artists' colony before turning towards creating illustrations, leading to his 30-year collaboration with the magazine "Fliegende Blätter" from 1893 to 1923. - Several small ink spots, most prominent near upper margin; small crease near lower right corner. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
