Kul'tura was one of the most important publishing houses in the Ukrainian Renaissance of the 1920s, drawing on the most significant talents in writing and book illustration by Ukrainian authors and artists, and it produced some of the best children's books during its life from 1928 to 1932. It suffered the fate of many publishers as the terrible might of the Holodomor and increasing Russification reduced the production of Ukrainian language to almost nothing by the late 1930s. The story of a little boy, Vanya, who goes looking for mushrooms in the forest and gets lost. He decides to spend the night in a tree, where he observes an owl hunting for prey at night. In the morning Vanya finds his way home. The book was well received on publication. Rare, with one institutional holding found (Univ Washington). A fine copy.
