In 8, pp. 84 + (2b). Cart. coeva. Prima trad. italiana di questi aforismi, scritti originariamentiÂin latino e uscitiÂpostumi nel 1795, cheÂebbero un notevole successo nel corso dell'Ottocento. Furono infatti tradotti cinque volte: sono 'essenzialmente un codice di comportamento, codice che non ha soltanto funzione normativa, ma e' ricco di suggerimenti intesi a rafforzare la fiducia e la credibilita' nel medico da parte dei malati e degli altri possibili beneficiari delle sue cognizioni scientifiche. Nel loro insieme costituiscono un interessante e, per l'epoca, raro esempio di un complesso miscuglio di saggezza, furberia, spregiudicatezza spinta fino al cinismo, e anche e soprattutto sorprendente modernita' e attualita' che chiaramente contrastano con il tronfio linguaggio accademico imperante nell'epoca in cui furono scritti' (Tito Berti, Istituto Veneto di scienze lettere ed arti. Atti classe di scienze fisiche., vol. 156, 1998). Alessandro Knips Macoppe nacque a Padova nel 1662 e, come il padre, anch'egli intraprese studi medici, ottenendo il dottorato in medicina presso l'universita' della sua citta' natale. Fu, quindi, in Dalmazia al seguito di Alessandro Farnese che era comandante della cavalleria della Repubblica di Venezia. Successivamente passo' in Spagna, compi' studi medici in Belgio e in Francia presso la scuola di Montpellier. Nel 1727 gli fu affidata la cattedra di Medicina pratica a Padova. Mori' nel 1744. ITA.
