Rezeption eines antiken Stoffes in Theater, Musik und Film. + Brauch und Ritual, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Im 5. Jahrhundert vor Christus erschuf der griechische Tragödiendichter Euripides ein Drama, welches von einem Mythos lebt. Als Anhänger der sogenannten neuen Theorien (zum Beispiel die Begründung zur Erschaffung einer Religion durch den Menschen), unter anderem vertreten durch Protagoras, Prodikos und Anaxagoras, ließ Euripides auch in seinen Werken etwas Neues mit einfließen. Somit änderte der um 480 v. Chr. geborene Athener gerne den Mythos, um in seiner tragischen Dichtung eigene Voraussetzungen für sein Drama zu konstruieren. So wird in seinem Werk die Frau allgemein und speziell Medea zur unerschrockenen, bewunderten und ungewöhnliche Taten vollbringende Figur. Dies geschah in einer Zeit, in der die Anschauung der Welt sich wandelte und die Machtmetropole Athen an Stärke verlor. Demzufolge ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass Euripides von Feinden umgeben war, denen die innovativen Gedanken des antiken Tragikers und Dichters missfielen. In einer Sage überbracht, zerriss eine Meute des Königs Archelaos aus Pella den Autor im Jahre 406 vor Christus.1 In der Handlung der Medea von Euripides ist Medea verzweifelt und verärgert zugleich,nachdem sie die Nachricht des Königs Kreon erhielt, Korinth verlassen zu müssen. Sie fragt nach dem Grund ihrer Verbannung aus Korinth und erfährt daraufhin, dass ihre magischen Aktivitäten dem Königreich Unheil brächten. Untertänig akzeptiert Medea die Instruktion des korinthischen Herrschers und bittet gnädig, sich noch einen Tag in der Stadt aufhalten zu dürfen, um so ihr Vorwand ihre Flucht planen zu können. Tatsächlich aber verfolgt Medea den Rachemord an der Königstochter, dem König und Jason. Nach einer heftigen Auseinandersetzung mit Jason ist Medea fest entschlossen ihre Tat zu vollbringen. Der Chor, bestehend aus 15 Kolcherinnen, steht ihr bei und unterstützt ihr Vorhaben. Allerdings nur bis zu dem Zeitpunkt, an dem Medea auch die Kinderumbringen will. Der Entschluss zur Tat oder das Unterlassen jener, reißt Medea hin und her.
