Hardcover. Condition: New. 1st Edition. Contents: 1. Kerala general profile. 2. Biodiversity status and trends. 3. Biodiversity conservation Kerala. 4. Agrodiversity of Kerala. 5. Endangered species and biodiversity legislations. 6. Traded bioresources of Kerala. 7. Trends in export of bioresources. 8. Biodiversity threats and conservation concerns. From the preface: Biodiversity Richness of Kerala, organized into eight chapters, explores the richness of biodiversity ranging from species diversity, ecosystem diversity and genetic diversity in terrestrial, inland and marine ecosystems of Kerala. It gives an insight into various international, national and state legislations relating to conservation and outlines the approaches adopted to conserve Kerala's natural landscape and endangered species. For realizing the fair and equitable sharing of benefits, the key element is to estimate the contribution that the bio-resources have made to the creation of the benefits. In this book, the authors have attempted to assess the bio-resources with economic potential in Kerala and their market value, which is important in the perspective of access and benefit sharing. The authors hope that this publication will provide a benchmark to policy makers in developing a strategy for planning the activities of all those sectors that can have a positive or negative impact on biodiversity. The publication will also benefit scientists, conservationists and researchers in the field.

Condition: Sehr gut. Zustand: Sehr gut | Seiten: 344 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Divided into three sections, this book explores the three main pillars of sustainable development, namely economy, environment and society, and their interlinkages at the regional level. The first section, Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) for sustainable development, focuses on international agreements and national legislation, as well as the challenges in implementing ABS in e.g. India. In turn, the second section examines the process of forming Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs) at the Local Self Government (LSG) level to promote environmental sustainability, highlighting local and community-level conservation initiatives that have led to the conservation of habitats and species. The third section addresses poverty eradication and food security. The case studies included demonstrate how the combination of traditional knowledge and modern techniques can enhance the productivity of traditional crop varieties, yielding greater benefits for communities. The aim of this volume is to disseminate the lessons learned from these case studies, as well as the findings from projects already in place, which can offer recommendations that can be applied to similar problems elsewhere in an attempt to find environmental solutions for sustainable development. Further, it introduces readers to new approaches to inclusive development, demonstrating that participation and grass root empowerment are key drivers of equitable and sustainable development.
