A wonderful suite of twelve hand-colored lithographs (complete) depicting highlights of a journey to London: crossing the Channel, the carriage from Brighton, Westminster Abbey, hunting, cockfights, horseracing, boxing, rowing, etc. Oblong 4to: 21.5 x 28.5 cm. The lithographs are housed in a custom-made cloth clamshell case. Occasional light foxing in margins, else FINE AND BRIGHT, with the colors very fresh. RARE.

An outstanding suite of twenty-four hand-colored lithographs (complete) depicting highlights of a journey to England: a port scene, an inn, country scenes, butchers and fishmongers, soldiers, a burial, etc. Front wrapper (which also serves as title-page; 8 pp. descriptive text; 24 fine hand-colored lithographs. Large folio: 41 x 29 cm. Housed in a custom-made cloth clamshell case. Faint foxing on text leaves. THE COLOR PLATES ARE ALL FINE AND BRIGHT, ON EXCELLENT WOVE PAPER, with the colors very fresh. RARE. The plate depicting central London at rush hour, by both Lami and Monnier, is a masterpiece.
Paris, Firmin Didot, 1829. 23 x 13,5 cm, [3] ff., cxxxvij pp., [1] f. bl., 64 pp. Relié demi-veau glacé rouge à coins signé de Carayon, dos lisse orné d'un décor romantique, couverture et dos conservés. Exemplaire en très bel état. Édition présentée par Ferdinand Langlé et Émile Morice. Ce recueil assez peu courant est entièrement imprimé en lettres gothiques par l'atelier de Firmin Didot, imitant les manuscrits du XVe siècle. Cet ouvrage fait partie des impressions remarquables de la maison Didot. Il contient quatre chroniques « récitées par Cristofe Malivoir le jongleur, [.] en la grande salle du chastel d'Escorailles » : Le Droit de Nopçage, Le Jugement de Dieu, La Cour de Jussienne, Le Vu du faisant. Le texte est accompagné de 64 pages de notes explicatives. L'ouvrage est illustré de lettrines, ornements et de quatre vignettes gravées d'après H. Monnier et Eugène Lami. Les lettres et les ornements sont enluminés. Ex-libris d'Henri Lenseigne contrecollé sur le contre plat. Henri Lenseigne était un grand bibliophile président de la société "Les XX", vice-président de la société "Le livre contemporain", sa bibliothèque a été vendu aux enchères en 1930 et a fait l'objet d'un catalogue rédigé par Carteret. "Folio (11 x 16 inches). 16 (of ?18) EXCEPTIONALLY FINE engraved plates by J.B. Allen, Frederick Heath, J.C. Varrall, Charles Rolls, and Charles Heath after Lami, all printed on papier de Chine and laid down on heavier stock, before letters, 6 SIGNED BY THE ARTIST below the image, and ALL CAPTIONED BY HIM ON THE PAPER GUARD in pencil. Contemporary dark green half morocco, titled in gold on the front cover "Paris by E. Lami 1843" (nearly detached, extremities a bit worn). Provenance: from the library of Jacques Levy, his sale, Sotheby's, 20th April 2012, lot 196 Early (?proof) issue of Lami's exquisite views "of Paris of the wealthy and aristocratic, its theatres, its balls, its races, its outlying palaces, every locale, indeed, where elegant society sought amusement" (Ray, French 218). Janin commissioned Lami to illustrate two books of views of fashionable Paris: one of scenes of the winter season, and another of the summer. They were also published in London as "The American in Paris : or Heath's Annual for 1843" and "The American in Paris during the Summer, being a companion to the Winter in Paris ; or Heath's picturesque Annual for 1844".
