First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. No Jacket. First Edition. From the introduction, "For the second history, it was deemed appropriate that each unit should be allowed to tell its own story of its final months in Vietnam. This book is more than the story about the results achieved by the individual soldier. It was he who has expended his efforts and courage in earning for the 82nd Airborne a reputation of being one of the most respected combat units in Vietnam." And they were! Captain Augsburger edited the manuscripts submitted and Lt. Pohlman performed the layout and publishing "chores." No DJ. A very fine copy.

Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: None. 1st Edition. VERY GOOD, No dust jacket as issued. White cloth covers with gilt lettering on cover and spine. 143pp ; b&w and color photographs ; 31cm. . . . . . . From January to December 1969, the 3rd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division (?Golden Brigade?) continued its role as a highly mobile reaction force west and northwest of Saigon, operating in swamp, canal, and plantation country laced with mines and booby traps while pressing Viet Cong and NVA local forces and securing key approaches to the capital. Brigade elements conducted constant small?unit patrols, night ambushes, and airmobile insertions, frequently engaging in short, violent contacts and cache?finding sweeps; one documented action on 21 March 1969 saw a brigade unit in night defensive positions southwest of Trang Bang withstand a mortar and ground attack with support from helicopter and AC?119 gunships, while another on 23 March uncovered a 1.7?ton ammunition cache during sweeps southwest of Hiep Hoa. A major theme of 1969 for the brigade was transition: under the broader *Vietnamization* policy, its paratroopers increasingly shifted from purely U.S. unilateral operations to training and partnering with Army of the Republic of Vietnam units, especially the 5th ARVN Ranger Group and the 1st and 3rd ARVN Airborne, schooling them in airmobile assaults, cache searches, and night ambush tactics in the brigade?s sector west of Saigon from May. After nearly 22 months in combat, the 3rd Brigade - still the only element of the 82nd Airborne Division committed to Vietnam - completed its 1969 campaign and redeployed to Fort Bragg in December 1969, its veterans later commemorating the period in this official 1969 unit history (Volume II) and in subsequent works such as Robert Dvorchak?s The Golden Brigade.
