Quarter Leather. Condition: Good. No Jacket. No date of publication, though circa 1790. First edition abridged from the three volume Holcroft translation published 1789. 295 pages, plus 6 plates. Calf spine cover with red leather name label. Gilt lettering is a little worn, though legible. Marbled paper covers. Worn around edges and at spine ends. Old, very small, catalogue listing pasted to blank front free end page. A few inked names, etc. on blank end pages. Three leaves, including title page, advertisement, and first contents page have been trimmed about one half inch along top, not affecting any text or images. 295 pages, though misnumbered as 275.

Vol 3 part 2 - [ii], 273-399, [11] pages + 153 plates. I make the total of plates 423 + the frontispiece to vol 1. It is difficult to be sure as some of the plates are numbered in sequence, others not numbered and some numbered according to the paragraphs in the text to which they refer and not in a continuous sequence. All in all very confusing. Page numbers cxliii and cxliv in volume 1 are duplicated. Text is complete. In old leather boards with replacement modern spines, but retaining the old lettering labels. Plates are a bit more spotted and stained than the pages. Some plates detached. A heavy set of 4 volumes.

No Jacket. 3rd Edition, Full Leather, covers and spine detached from text block, wear to covers and spine, corners bumped and worn, boards showing, surface of leather worn on edges and corners, spine has large piece of sticky back plastic holding the covers on and together, starting to come away at edges, another piece has been used to reinforce spine join with back cover, rip at top of spine join with back cover 7cm but remainder still attached, internally in reasonable condition, majority of pages crisp and clear but some wear to edges and corners, a few small rips on edges, some light scattered foxing throughout, binding a little loose throughout, a few places more so, most noticeable between pages 418 and 422 and the plates in between, last two pages (blank) ripped in half horizontally through center.
