Thumm hatte in der Schrift "Apodeixis theologica, Pontificos esse eikono-stauro-skeletolatras" die katholische Bilder…- und Reliquienverehrung als götzendienerisch angegriffen. Auf die vorliegende Replik des Jesuiten Kaspar Lechner antwortete Thumm mit einer "Idolatria Lechneriana". Lechner, der darin eine Verlagerung der Kontroverse hin zur Frage nach der Rolle des Papstes sah, veröffentlichte daher statt des angekündigten zweiten Teils die Schrift "Antichristus Thummianus refutatus, sive doctrina Bellarminiana de Papa non-Antichristo contra Thummii errores defensa".- De Backer/Somm.
