A compilation of columns which appeared in the [Philadelphia] Public Ledger spring to summer, 1891. Vists and walks described to the "coal fields of Pottsville" ; "along Cresheim Creek and the 'Happy Valley'" ; "roundabout journey to Edge Hill" ; "through the Gulf and the Belvoir : scenic magnificance of our Schuylkill" ; "New Jersey : Walt Whitman's old haunt in picturesque Laurel Springs" ; "up the Wissahickon Valley" ; "to Reading and its grand environs" ; "Villanova and its vicinity" ; "to Mount Gretna and the Cornwall ore banks" . Etc. In publisher's pebbled burgundy cloth with title lettering to cover. A pair of short open tears/splits to the cloth along the front spine edge, Halo damp stain and mottling to the cover board does not affect any of the book's contents or pages. Floral patterned endpapers intact in the joints. Two line gift inscription to a blank fromt endpage. Shaken in the spine with several internal splits in the binding. Would benefit much from a basic rebacking. Still a well preserved copy, VG internally, and quite scarce with only 2 or 3 copies held in American library collections. G++.
