Diese Studie stellt die überarbeitete Fassung einer früheren Energieanalyse des Autors dar, die unter dem Titel "Tussen kernenergie en kolen, een analyse" 1980 in den Nederlanden erschien. Auch nach dem Beinahe-GAU 2006 in einem schwedischen Kraftwerk, der Serie von Pannen und Störfällen in den AKW s Brunsbüttel und Krümmel, der Vertuschungs- und Verharmlosungspolitik durch die Betreiber wie den Stromkonzern Vattenfall sowie angesichts der von Sicherheitspolitikern sonst gerne und häufig beschworenen wachsenden Gefahr terroristischer Angriffe halten viele Politiker an einem Ausbau der Atomenergie fest. Dies wird oft auch mit dem Hinweis auf die Bekämpfung des Klimawandels begründet. Dabei wusste schon Robert Jungk, dass der "Atomstaat" aufgrund der mannigfachen Gefahren der Nutzung von Atomenergie nur ein totalitärer Staat sein kann. Daher ist Atomenergie unserer Ansicht nach keine Energiealternative. Sie leidet an Asthma und dieses scheint mir ein Fall zu sein, welches [!] gut auf Tuberkulin Behandlung reagieren würde. Sie bleibt nur sehr kurz in Holland, so daß ich keine Behandlung anfangen kann und wir haben nun überlegt, dass es am besten wäre, wenn sie sich zu Ihnen wende. Sie haben doch ja früher diese Behandlung selbst gemacht und sicher werden Sie noch immer großes Interesse dafür haben [.]". Storm van Leeuwen war anfangs Offizier und wurde 1920 Professor am Pharmakotherapeutischen Institut in Leiden und beschäftigte sich vorwiegend mit der Erforschung allergischer Erkrankungen und deren Behandlung, besonders des Asthmas.
