Johan Peter Lefrén (1784-1862) från Åbo var militär och militärteoretiker. Han var åren 1824-39 ordinarie guvernör för Krigsakademien vid Karlberg och hans inflytande över officersutbildningen und…er 1800-talets första hälft var stort. Han deltog i ett flertal militära utredningar och slutade som general i infanteriet. Hans föreläsningar, ?Föredragningar i krigsvetenskap?, som utgavs i tre delar åren 1817-18 kom att användas som standardverk i den högre militära utbildningen. Här, i ?Berättelse öfver Kongl. Krigs-Akademien?, lade Lefrén fram sitt pedagogiska system, där han krävde en mer human anda i uppfostringsarbetet, och han önskade minska på tvånget och straffen. Självstudier skulle vara grundläggande för undervisningen. Skriften kom att spela en avgörande roll för tillkomsten 1825 av den stora undervisningskommittén, den s.k. snillekommittén, där han blev en av de drivande krafterna. På hans förslag inrättades även Nya elementarskolan i Stockholm (SBL). "En hedersman jag håller av" var E.G. Geijers omdöme om Lefrén. Softcover / Paperback.
