Inscription by publisher reads Mr. Charles Allis, Bradsbourne Farmhouse Sevenoaks, Kent. In alter Verbindenheit und hoher Wertschaetzung.Joseph Fremersdorf. Luzern, 5 December, 1977. In good condition. Dust jacket exhibits shelf wear with tearing to edges. Cloth boards remain attractive. Bookseller's ticket on bottom edge of front paste-down. Text-block and photos are bright and clean. Binding is tight and intact. Please see photos. Jost Bürgi, active primarily at the courts in Kassel and Prague, was a Swiss clockmaker, mathematician, and writer. Although an autodidact, he was already during his lifetime considered as one of the most excellent mechanical engineers of his generation. His employer, William IV, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel praised Bürgi as a "second Archimedes". He was appointed court astronomer in 1591. FORN-SHELF-0468-BB-2603-MC134.
