Paperback. Condition: Good. Dissatisfied with life? It's easy to blame financial woes, abuse, or social dysfunction, but ultimately, these aren't the true issues. Who you are being is what truly matters. Who we choose to be can lead us to love and happiness-or it can condemn us to despair and a deep dissatisfaction with life. For many people, this is the norm. They live as their less than best selves, never realizing what they're missing. You can break free of this destructive pattern by embracing your best self. Believe in a better way. Seek purpose and love, and everything else will follow because nothing in the universe is more powerful than a made-up mind. Melvin D. Foreman has spent over twenty-five years teaching and coaching others how to be their best selves. His inspirational memoir reads like a living roadmap to the greatest riches in life: love, gratitude, and a deep connection to the divine source. Through Foreman's insightful sharing, you'll learn how to engage with your true purpose, maintain a sense of peace, and live in the present moment. You'll discover how to nurture your best self and embrace exactly who you were meant to be.…

Paperback. Condition: Good. A new collection of poems from Les Murray that renews and transforms the contemporary world through language In Waiting for the Past, Les Murray employs his molten sense of language to renew and transform our experience of the world. With quicksilver verse, he conjures his rural past, the life of the poor dairy boy in Australia, as he simultaneously feels the steady tug of aging, of time pulling him back to the present. Here, syntax, sense, and sound combine with such acrobatic grace that his poems render the familiar into the unknown, the unknown into the revelatory. Whether Murray is writing about a boy on a walkabout hiding from grief, a sounding whale "spilling salt rain," or leaves that "tread on the sky," the great Australian poet's sense of wonder, his ear for the everyday, his swiftness of thought, are everywhere in these pages. As Derek Walcott said of Murray's work, "There is no poetry in the English language now so rooted in its sacredness, so broad-leafed in its pleasures, and yet so intimate and conversational.".…

Hardback. Condition: Good. Everyone has secrets. But college freshman Jason Crowell is especially guarded when an anonymous feminist organization on campus publicly accuses him of date rape. Jason proclaims his innocence but has no idea who the Women Warriors are--or even who his supposed victim is. Jason's former high school principal, Reginald Parker, believes in the kid and asks private investigator Milan Jacovich (MY-lan YOCK-ovitch) to uncover the identities of the secret accusers. Milan would rather steer clear of this unpleasant case, but Reggie Parker once saved his life (see Deep Shaker), so Milan agrees to investigate. What he finds surprises him--and eventually leads to murder. Milan tangles with Jason's rigid and unfeeling parents, a mean-spirited campus police chief, and an extremely dangerous gang of youths that wants him dead. He quickly finds himself in more trouble than he ever imagined. …

Paperback. Condition: Good. At a critical point in the development of modern physical theory, two brilliant and dedicated scientists, Albert Michelson and Edward Morley, conducted experiments to measure the velocity of the ether, which was presumed to fill all of space and serve as the medium for the conduction of light. Their measurements suggested that the velocity was zero, relative to the earth. Either the earth was the center of the universe (as Ptolemy believed) or light was not conducted through such a medium. The velocity of light was clearly demonstrated to be independent of the observer's velocity, but how could this possibly be true? They left it to Albert Einstein to interpret their results. He proposed a third alternative, special relativity, which is still regarded as gospel by physicists today. But surely Einstein's alternative was not the only one. Was Edward Morley robbed of his place in scientific history.…

Hardback. Condition: Good. #13 in the Milan Jacovich mystery series . . . A slick con man, posing as a recent immigrant from County Mayo all alone in America, is preying on the clannish loyalties of the Irish community in Cleveland for gifts, money, and other less tangible treats. When Common Pleas Judge Maureen Hartigan realizes she's been bamboozled, she and her daughter, Cathleen, hire private eye Milan Jacovich (it's pronounced MY-lan YOCK-ovitch) to chase down the swindler. But the con man turns up dead in a skanky motel room, and Milan finds himself tangled in the world of the local Irish godfather, Con McCardle, who is connected with the IRA. Milan also finds himself once again face-to-face with Cathleen Hartigan, an old flame that never quite kindled. Their own feelings clash with the more urgent need to solve a murder. And he learns a few things about Irish customs and cultures--including the Irish sports pages.…

Paperback. Condition: Fair. Two founding fathers of American industry. One desire to dominate business at any price. "Masterful . . . Standiford has a way of making the 1890s resonate with a twenty-first-century audience."--USA Today "The narrative is as absorbing as that of any good novel--and as difficult to put down."--Miami Herald The author of Last Train to Paradise tells the riveting story of Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and the bloody steelworkers' strike that transformed their fabled partnership into a furious rivalry. Set against the backdrop of the Gilded Age, Meet You in Hell captures the majesty and danger of steel manufacturing, the rough-and-tumble of the business world, and the fraught relationship between "the world's richest man" and the ruthless coke magnate to whom he entrusted his companies. The result is an extraordinary work of popular history. Praise for Meet You in Hell "To the list of the signal relationships of American history . . . we can add one more: Andrew Carnegie and Henry Clay Frick . . . The tale is deftly set out by Les Standiford."--Wall Street Journal "Standiford tells the story with the skills of a novelist . . . a colloquial style that is mindful of William Manchester's great The Glory and the Dream."--Pittsburgh Tribune-Review "A muscular, enthralling read that takes you back to a time when two titans of industry clashed in a battle of wills and egos that had seismic ramifications not only for themselves but for anyone living in the United States, then and now."--Dennis Lehane, author of Mystic River .…
