Inspiré d' El Diablo cojuelo de l'auteur espagnol Luis Vélez de Guevara, Le Diable boiteux apporta la renommé et un succès considérable à Alain-René Lesage (1668-1747).Premier tirage qui se distingue entre autres par une faute de syntaxe page 182 « Il semble que le ciel vous ait envoyé ici pour à détourner » au lieu de « pour détourner » dans le second tirage. Dans son étude sur Le Diable Boiteux, intitulée Étude de bibliographie matérielle Roger Laufer indique (page 24) que : « Le texte a été revu et augmenté, la composition aérée par l'introduction de nombreux paragraphes ; le chapitre, xv perd 4 pages, le chapitre xvi en gagne 4 et se trouve divisé en deux parties qui forment les nouveaux chap, xvi et xvii. » L'exemplaire est enrichi d'un frontispice gravé, tiré de l'édition originale, signé en bas à droite Magdeleine Horthemels. Coins émoussés avec manques, coiffe inférieure arasée, petites fentes aux charnières. Quelques salissures et rousseurs éparses ainsi que plusieurs tâches d'encre dont une sur le titre qui a légèrement perforé le feuillet. Premier feuillet de garde et frontispice en partie défaits.

In zahlreichen Auflagen seit 1803/04 erschienener historischer Atlas mit tabellarischen Übersichten und eingebetteten Karten unterschiedlicher Größe (europäische Länder, Welt, Asien, Afrika, Amerika, USA etc.), verfaßt von Emmanuel-Augustin de Las Cases (1766-1842), der Napoleon I. freiwillig ins Exil nach St. Helena folgte und durch die Veröffentlichung seiner Tagebücher aus dieser Zeit weltberühmt wurde. - Exemplar der "Édition de luxe" ("beau papier colorié, satiné, relié", aus dem in mehreren Exemplaren beiliegenden Blatt "Prospectus"), mit 130 fr. fast doppelt so teuer wie die "Édition populaire" für 77 fr. 50 c. ("papier et d'accessoires très inférieurs"). - Gering gebräunt, kaum fleckig. Einband etwas beschabt und bestoßen, unteres Kapital gering eingerissen, die Deckelbezüge teils etwas wasserrandig. - Schönes Exemplar, der Titel mit eigenhändiger Widmung des Verfassers "au Prince de Montleart en Souvenir de la vieille connoissance .", datiert "Passy près Paris 17 fevrier 1841" (wohl für Jules Max de Montléart, 1787-1865, durch Heirat im österreichischen Hochadel bestens vernetzt und 1822 gefürstet, Besitzer des Wiener Schlosses auf dem Gallitzinberg; vgl.
