Direct reprint of the1963 second edition, adding a new introduction and a brief essay, "Black Caucuses in the Unions" by Charles Denby at close of text. A history and theory of Black liberation, originally published on the 100th Anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The News and Letters Committees [sic], a self-described "Marxist-Humanist" organization, was founded in 1955 by Raya Dunayevskaya, a Marxist theorist, and Charles Denby, a rank-and-file Detroit auto worker. Denby served as editor of News & Letters from 1955 to 1983.
