SIGNED by Baumer on the colophon. 4to. 483 pp. (many pages uncut). 20 tipped in color plates with captioned tissue guards. Publisher's full vellum binding with gilt illustration & lettering to front cover & spine; oval color plate affixed to front; deckled page edges; color illustrated endpapers. Boards are slightly bowed; lacking ribbon ties; some scuffing to covers; upper front hinge just starting; a very good copy; still a lovely binding. Vanity Fair follows the lives of Becky Sharp and Amelia Sedley amid their friends and families during and after the Napoleonic Wars. It is sometimes considered the "principal founder" of the Victorian domestic novel. The story is framed as a puppet play, and the narrator, despite being an authorial voice, is somewhat unreliable. The serial was a popular and critical success; the novel is now considered a classic and has inspired several audio, film, and television adaptations. - wiki. Deluxe Edition Limited to 350 copies of which this is Number 164 SIGNED by Baumer.
