Par ses dimensions hors normes - le manuscrit se déploie sur près de 20 mètres linéaire et 1 mètre de hauteur - l'édition n'a pu entrer dans un process industriel habituel et a nécessité plus de 16 000 collages manuels, ce qui explique la rareté de cet ouvrage. Exemplaire N°10 /45. A l'état neuf. Emboîtage brun à l'identique de l'original dans son emboitage de carton illustré des Editions Point de vues. Parfait état. Conçu pour la ville par Jacques Le Lieur, échevin de Rouen, ce livre objet a été une référence technique sur les alimentations en eau de la ville jusqu'au XIXe siècle. Le Lieur, en sa qualité de notaire du roi, est chargé de mener à bien un bilan complet des trois aqueducs sous l'égide de la municipalité rouennaise. Jacques Le Lieur a, sans aucun doute, voulu réaliser un document exemplaire, et pour cela a retracé en élévation de part et d'autre du cours des sources, le paysage rural et urbain qu'il était possible alors d'observer. Il offre une source inépuisable d'information pour les nombreux chercheurs nationaux ou internationaux spécialistes de la Renaissance. Document technique, avant d'être oeuvre graphique, le Livre des Fontaines, est l'un des plus riches témoignages de la pensée d'une ville d'Europe du XVIe siècle. Symbolique par son sujet, surprenant par sa forme, il est à travers textes et images une fabuleuse machine à voyager dans le temps au fil de l'eau. Conservé à la bibliothèque de Rouen, le manuscrit du Livre des Fontaines a été donné aux échevins de la ville le 30 janvier 1526.
