Condition: New. SB x+173pp.maps, & sketches 2005 N&MP Reprint of 1931 Original Edition Published Price £18 This had been a local Corps - the Bhopal Levy (1859-1865) and the Bhopal Bn (1865-1903) - before gaining the title of 9th Bhopal Infantry (1903-1922). Its nickname at that time was âthe Bo-peepsâ. During WWI it raised thre…e additional Bns, two of which served in Mesopotamia, but this book is concerned mainly with the original pre-war (Regular) 1st Bn. It served on the Western Front with the Indian Corps, in Egypt, and then in Mesopotamia. Its adventures are described here in good detail, with plenty of individuals being mentioned by name in the narrative. In 1922, the 1/9th Bhopal Infantry became the 4/16th Punjab Regt. Index, Apps: with full citations, incl VC award to Sepoy Chatta Singh), list of former COs, list of other officers (1818-1914 and 1922-1930, with service details), list of Honorary Colonels, notes on units which supplied reinforcement drafts to the Regt during WWI.

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. 1st Edition. Very rare history of Eigth Corps operations from Normandy to the Rhine. 172pp.,maps, frontispiece, folding survey maps in endpocket. Very good condition in chipped, still useful coloured dustwrapper. Handwritten signed presentation inscription from the C…orps Commander General Richard O'Connor to the well known author Arthur Bryant. The inscription explains how (Bryants) writings meant "so much to me during my captivity".General O'Connor, the then highly successful desert commander was spectacularly captured by a German reconnaissance patrol in the desert in 1941 and until his escape in late 1943 spent his time in an Italian POW camp. He returned to England and commanded a full Corps from 1944 until the wars end. Copies of this book are exceptionally rare, and to find one in a dustwrapper with the ultimate inscription from Sir Richard, the Corps Commander, who himself had a larger than life story to tell, makes it unique. Signed Inscription from Genera.
