[4] pages with 1 page with brief introduction & 2 pages with alphabetical list of the fruits depicted. 144 leaves (each ca. 26 x 16 cm.), each with a colour image on the front after a watercolour of an apples, a pear or a prune by A[ndries] Beeftink (1908-1985), a b./w. image on the back & descriptive text. Together in one orig. giltlettered ringbinder in clothbacked boards. - First two leaves loose; spine partly loose; cover sl. discol.; some foxing. Complete set, as issued, consisting of 9 sets of 16 plates each, showing a total of 80 apple varieties, 52 pear varieties and 12 plum varieties. The text was provided by R. Lijsten. Published on behalf of the Nederlandsche Heidemaatschappij. The introduction states that the decision to publish the series was taken in 1942 and that it was originally planned to publish it in 10 parts with 16 plates each, but that this would ("provisionally") end with the current 9 parts, consisting of a total of 144 plates instead of the planned 160 plates.
