Das juristische Studium weist zu wenig Praxisbezug auf und ist zu justizlastig ausgerichtet. Obwohl etwa drei Viertel der Ausgebildeten später den Anwaltsberuf ergreifen, fehlt es an einer hinreichenden Orientierung des Studiums an der anwaltlichen und notariellen Tätigkeit. Da eine umfassende Reform der Juristenausbildung in absehbarer Zeit nicht zu erwarten ist, bedarf es einer "inneren Reform" des Studiums, also Veränderungen der rechtswissenschaftlichen Ausbildung im Rahmen des geltenden Rechts. Fragen der inhaltlichen Ausgestaltung des rechtswissenschaftlichen Studiums standen im Zentrum der 1. Soldan Tagung für anwaltsorientierte Juristenausbildung, die am 29. und 30. April 1999 unter Beteiligung von Wissenschaftlern und Praktikern in Hannover stattfand. Der Gedankenaustausch ließ den Wunsch entstehen, ein möglichst umfassendes Bild der gegenwärtigen Ausbildungssituation an allen Fakultäten zu gewinnen. Es wurde deshalb dem Institut für Anwalts- und Notarrecht der Universität Bielefeld der Auftrag erteilt, eine Bestandsaufnahme der derzeitigen Anwaltsorientierung im Studium durchzuführen. Mit Mitteln der Hans Soldan Stiftung konnte ab August 1999 eine Erhebung durchgeführt werden, an der sich 21 Fakultäten aus ganz Deutschland beteiligt haben und deren Ergebnisse hier präsentiert werden. Die vorliegenden Daten können den notwendigen Erfahrungsaustausch erleichtern und Ansatzmöglichkeiten für eine Studienreform unter den geltenden Rahmen-bedingungen aufzeigen. Die beigefügte tabellarische Aufschlüsselung nach Fakultäten bietet zudem allen an der rechtswissenschaftlichen Lehre interessierten, einen schnellen Zugriff auf die verschiedenen Konzepte anwaltsorientierter Ausbildung im Studium.

After childhood on a small Midwestern dairy farm, Perry put himself through nursing school while working on a ranch in Wyoming, and subsequently worked as a nurse and an emergency medical technician. In addition to writing, Perry maintains a farm, raising chickens and formerly pigs. Perry hosts the nationally syndicated Tent Show Radio, performs as a humorist, and tours with his band, the Long Beds. His memoirs include Population 485, Truck: A Love Story, Coop, and Visiting Tom. His book exploring the work of the French philosopher and essayist Michel de Montaigne, Montaigne in Barn Boots, was published in 2017. He had developed an interest in Montaigne's work while recuperating from a kidney stone, when he did research into his condition and saw references to Montaigne, who also suffered from that malady. Perry's essays and nonfiction have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Backpacker, Outside and Runner's World. He has collaborated with the musician Justin Vernon on several projects and composed the liner notes for the Vernon-produced The Blind Boys of Alabama album I'll Find a Way.
