This is No. 22A. 1881, First Edition. 208 p., 15.5 x 12 , folio. In fair condition. Boards are scuffed, worn with toning to leather. Chipped painted work on front and rear boards. Edges of boards are normally scuffed; corners bumped. Head and tail of spine scuffed; some possible tape residue close to head. Gilt lettering on spine moderately dulled & soiled, difficult to read. Top edge of text-block gilt; fore-edge deckled. Gift inscription found on front fly-leaf: "Presented by Albina Newlin to her Niece Edith N. Gauthrop on her Seventieth Birthday. 12 Mo. 20th. 1882." Hand-numbering found on half-title page (verso). Normal toning throughout text-block; normal instances of finger-soiling on fore-edges. Some tissue guards exhibit tearing, off-setting, or are lacking altogether. Rear gutter beginning to crack. Binding intact. Please see photos. L. G. Séguin (Lisbeth G.) refers to Lisbeth Gooch Séguin, a Victorian-era author who primarily wrote travel literature, most notably known for her book Rural England, and is believed to have died around 1890.
