Add to basketTwo letters and a sheet of 31 different signatures of the South African Rugby Team, all inscribed upon headed note paper with the printed London address of the team, accompanied by a gilt metal lapel badge. The two letters are signed by Dick Lockyear, scrum half in the team, and one refers to the enclosed badge while the other refers to the sheet of signatures and also references some methods of play and gives tips on passing. The letters are dated repectively 7/12/ 60 and 30/11/60. The 3 sheets are each creased from historic folding both horizontally and vertically and each have a tiny drawing-pin hole at the top but are otherwise in Very Good condition. The badge is pinned to a small paper envelope. In 1960-61 the Springboks, the South African Rugby Touring Team, toured England and France, playing a series of test matches as well as games against clubs and regional and representative teams in their fifth tour of the Northern Hemisphere. In this tour the Springboks defeated all four Home unions for their fourth Grand Slam, during a controversial period in which the team became a target of international protest amidst criticism of apartheid. The many signatures include Doug Hopwood, Charlie Nimb and Frik du Preez.
