Selected Annotated bibliography. Index. Signed with first name only with sentiment (Best wishes,) by both authors. Lawrence A. Gordon is the EY Alumni Professor of Managerial Accounting and Information Assurance at the University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business. Gordon earned his Ph.D. in Managerial Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Gordon's research focuses on such issues as economic aspects of information security (including cybersecurity or computer security), corporate performance measures, cost management systems, and capital investments. Martin P. Loeb is the Deloitte & Touche Faculty Fellow and Professor of Accounting and Information Assurance (AIA) at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park. Loeb received his Ph.D. from the Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences (MEDS) group at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. Loeb's research focuses on economic aspects of information security, the interface between managerial accounting and information technology, and the effect of regulation on cyber security. With Lawrence A. Gordon, he developed a model that provides a mathematical economic approach for deriving an organization's optimal investment level in cybersecurity. That Gordon-Loeb model, has been featured in The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times. Gordon and Loeb also co-authored Managing Cybersecurity Resources: A Cost-Benefit Analysis. Breaches in cybersecurity are on the rise. Between 1998 and 2003, reported cybersecurity incidents increased over thirty-fold. Well-publicized information security breaches have made cybersecurity a critical and timely topic for the general public, as well as for corporations, not-for-profit organizations and the government. As a result, organizations need to be able to make the business case for spending the right amount on cybersecurity. They also need to know how to efficiently allocate these funds to specific cybersecurity activities. Managing Cybersecurity Resources is the first book to specifically focus on providing a framework for understanding how to use economic and financial management tools in helping to address these important issues. The McGraw-Hill Homeland Security Series draws on frontline government, military, and business experts to detail what individuals and businesses can and must do to understand and move forward in this challenging new environment. Books in this timely and noteworthy series will cover everything from the balance between freedom and safety to strategies for protection of intellectual, business, and personal property to structures and goals of terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Starting with a simple formulation accessible to all mathematicians, this second edition is designed to provide a thorough introduction to nonstandard analysis. Nonstandard analysis is now a well-developed, powerful instrument for solving open problems in almost all disciplines of mathematics; it is often used as a secret weapon by those who know the technique. This book illuminates the subject with some of the most striking applications in analysis, topology, functional analysis, probability and stochastic analysis, as well as applications in economics and combinatorial number theory. The first chapter is designed to facilitate the beginner in learning this technique by starting with calculus and basic real analysis. The second chapter provides the reader with the most important tools of nonstandard analysis: the transfer principle, Keislers internal definition principle, the spill-over principle, and saturation. The remaining chapters of the book study different fields for applications; each begins with a gentle introduction before then exploring solutions to open problems. All chapters within this second edition have been reworked and updated, with several completely new chapters on compactifications and number theory. Nonstandard Analysis for the Working Mathematician will be accessible to both experts and non-experts, and will ultimately provide many new and helpful insights into the enterprise of mathematics. it is often used as a secret weapon by those who know the technique. This book illuminates the subject with some of the most striking applications in analysis, topology, functional analysis, probability and stochastic analysis, as well as applications in economics and combinatorial number theory.
