This book examines the parasitic mistletoe's insidious and detrimental effects on Western yellow pine forestsâ"a subject of crucial importance given the severity of its impact on timber production and timber quality. The author, a leading expert on forest pathology, effectively conveys the urgency of mistletoe as an emerging threat to coniferous forests. Leading readers through the results of intensive studies conducted over a 12-year period, the book presents a detailed analysis of mistletoe's lifecycle, its methods of seed dispersal and germination, and its consequences for the health and longevity of its host. The author then goes on to investigate the broader implications of mistletoe infection on timber quality and quantity, seed production, and potential long-term effects on forest composition and succession. This insightful volume provides a comprehensive understanding of mistletoe's biology and ecology, making it an indispensable resource for foresters, landowners, and conservationists seeking to protect and manage Western yellow pine forests. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
