Lacks dustwrapper, has been recently rebound in a three colour leather binding with title impressed into spine, boards are slightly bowed, no fading or any apparent damage. Hinges are tight, decorative end papers have been replaced, previous owners details in pencil to inside of free front end, there is a small annotation in pen to title page and several annotations in light pencil in the margins of pages. Illustrated, there are two additional photos of Wye scenes attached to other two front end papers. Text is clean with only slight wear, although title page is spotted, page edges rough cut. An uncommon first edition of the work. In the publisher's original green blind stamped cloth with gilt detailing.With a vignette to the half title and 20 illustrations by Fielding, Cox, Warren and Radclyffe. Collated complete.This work from the Annual of British Landscape Scenery was written by Louisa Anne Twamley. Twamley was an Anglo/ Australian writer and illustrator and was potentially on of Australia's earliest photographers. This work takes you on a journey through the autumn scenery of Wye. In the publisher's original cloth. Externally generally smart with fading to the spine, bumping resulting in minor closed tears and loss to the cloth to the head and tail on the extremities, Very minor closed tear to the rear joint and marks to the boards and spine. Booksellers label to front pastedown. Internally Pages are bright with scattered spotting, the odd tidemark and offsetting to the verso of the plates. Illustrated half title tender and a few pages starting but firm. Good. book.

Six engravings of English flowers published in Our Wild Flowers. Two have black ink on upper right corner. 4 5/8 x 7 3/8". Meredith is a well-known botanical artist who illustrated this book before she migrated to Australia (1839) where she drew fascinating flora & insects with a beautifully composed Victorian sensibility. Meredith continued painting in Tasmania until she passed in 1895.

Despite her lack of formal education she had become an extremely competent writer, artist, botanist and naturalist by her teens and published her first book, Poems, at the age of twenty. She went on to publish several more books on flowers, including this volume.
