This collection of forty six short verses for children is very much in the style of A. A. Milne's first collection of verses 'When We Were Very Young' which was published by Methuen just a year before in 1924. In that same year Lucas was appointed Chairman of Methuen & Co and it was he who introduced Milne, a fellow writer for Punch magazine, to Ernest H. Shepard, the rest, as they say, is history.
