Beide Bände mit ausführlichem Bandregister im Anhang, durch das die Erschließung des umfangreichen Werkes erheblich erleichtet wird. Beide Titelblätter mit großformatiger Holzschnitt-Druckermarke; Texte mit einigen gestochenen Kopfvignetten. Ludwig praktizierte nach Studium und Promotion in Jena von 1650 an in Königsberg in Franken; von 1658 an war er als Stadt- und Landphysikus zunächst in Salzungen, anschließend in Gotha tätig; 1666 avancierte er zum fürstlichen Leibarzt und Präsidenten des Collegium medicum in Gotha. Ettmüller erlangte 1681 eine Professur der Botanik an der Universität Leipzig, kurze Zeit später wurde er hier zum Professor der Chirurgie berufen. Ettmüllers Interesse galt stets auch der Pharmakologie; er war ein Anhänger der so genannten Chemiatrie, d. h. des Einsatzes chemischer Medikamente, die in seinen Therapieempfehlungen auch dominierten, wie sich unter anderem in seinem 1684 erschienenen Werk "Chymia rationalis et experimentalis" zeigt. Bände an den Kapitalen leicht berieben sowie minimal standspurig. Die Ganzlederbände ansonsten sehr gut erhalten, Lederbezüge noch frisch wirkend. Seiten sauber und nahezu fleckenfrei sowie ohne Bräunungen; einige Blatt in beiden Bänden am Rand etwas wurmspurig ein Blatt des zweiten Bandes unten mit Eckabschnitt (jeweils ohne Textverlust).
