Hard Covers. Condition: VG. Dust Jacket Condition: VG+. B/W photos (illustrator). 1st. New Zealand's first moror cars were imported in the last years of the 1890s and this excellent book follows the introduction of this mode of transport for the following decade, up to 1919. Considering its remoteness to sources of motor vehicles the country quite quickly adopted the car. This study examines the experiences of the motoring pioneers, the epic journeys they undertook on roads scarcely fit for horse and cart, let alone the fragile early vehicles, some of which were actually designed and built in NZ. Probably the first book to seriously record the earliest days of the motor car in NZ and a fine effort. 230 pages including two appendices, index, b/w photos throughout, decorative e/papers, b/w art title page double spread. Blue hard covers with gilt spine titles VG with light shading lower front board, small ink gift inscription FFEP verso, text block otherwise excellent. Unclipped colour art DJ is VG+.
