A standard and voluminous reference, even after all these years. The second and third volumes were completed by Percy Macquoid's wife and Ralph Edwards after Macquoid's death. "Furniture" includes not only large items but also much smaller pieces such as small inlaid boxes, bird cages, barometers, andirons, mirrors, locks for doors, coasters and much more. A very useful and informative reference. VG-, slight smudging here and there, ex-library with occasional perforation stamps and small ink ownership stamps throughout.

With 16 colour plates. Percy Macquoid was a theatrical designer and connoisseur of English furniture. He was the author of various articles and four books on the history of English furniture as well as this collaboration with Ralph Edwards. His four great works, The Age of Oak, The Age of Walnut, The Age of Mahogany and the Age of Satinwood were the first major survey on the subject of the history of English furniture, and are still reprinted and in use today. In a cloth binding in original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart with some rubbing. Wear to spine. Dustwrapper sound with loss and sunning to spine. Some chipping. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and generally clean with some patches of spotting usually to the recto of plates. Very Good Indeed. book.
