Theodore Draper (a division historian and intelligence… officer), it is a detailed, combat-focused narrative covering the division?s actions from its first major fighting through the end of the war in Europe.Considered one of the better-written American division histories from WWII, it is valued for its clarity, timeliness (published shortly after the war), and focus on the often-overlooked final campaigns in Germany. It serves as both a record for veterans of the 84th and a valuable primary source for military historians studying the Ninth Army?s operations.Bound in off-white cloth with red and silver circular illustration on the cover. Red label with silver lettering on the spine. Endpapers are a color map of the 84th Infantry Divisions movements "From Louisiana to the Elbe". Illustrated with six full color reproductions of paintings, two "wash drawings" in black and white, four sets of black and white photograph inserts, and sixteen maps, some of which are fold out.Also contains two appendices. xiv, 260 pp. Dust jacket is illustrated in full color with red and yellow lettering against a black background. A slipcase is included, but it is in very poor condition and is in several pieces with significant wear. Even still, the book itself is in near fine, wonderful condition with light ware and minor soiling. Unmarked. The illustrations are amazing. The dust jacket is VG with wear and chipping along the extremities, and again, the slipcase is present but in bad shape. Overall an amazing copy of the first edition. All illustrations and maps are present and accounted for. Full refund if not satisfied.
