First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. NY: Manhattan Post Card Co., [n.d., circa 1920s]. [32]pp; b&w illus. 8vo; saddle-stapled in yapped illustrated wraps. Wraps with toning, creasing, and wear; inked price corrections to front cover; some pulling to staples; good to very good. Contents bright and clear. A collection 64 black-and-white reproductions of photographic postcard illustrations overlaid with decorative blue border and sky elements, depicting Coney Island and Brooklyn in the early 20th century. The Brooklyn images, relatively barren of people compared to their bustling Coney Island counterparts, feature buildings and architectural structures, including Ebbet's Field, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and numerous views of Prospect Park. All images captioned, and with a brief text to front cover verso describing Coney Island as the "playground of New York City and one of the most popular resorts in the United States." Uncommon in the trade, and surprisingly scarce institutionally; OCLC reports only two physical holdings, at the Fenimore Art Museum and Columbia.
