Brockhaus, Leipzig (um 1890); Abbildung ca.11 x 16,5 cm; im neuen Passepartout für 24 x 30 cm Rahmen; mit einem 6-seitigen Artikel zum Bild und Bauprojekt. - / Karl Julius Bernhard Mannfeld (1848, Dresden - 1925, Frankfurt am Main) war ein bedeutender Vertreter der Radierkunst mittels Kupfer…platte und fertigte Landschafts- und Städteradierungen, vorwiegend Architekturansichten. Er führte sogenannte Originalradierungen aus. - Er war als Zeichner für den Grafen von Hoverden-Plenken tätig u. bereiste 5 Jahre die Provinz Schlesien, um für die grafische Sammlung hunderte von alten Grabsteinen zu zeichnen. Verleger Alexander Duncker erteilte ihm den Auftrag für das Werk Durchs deutsche Land Malerische Stätten aus Deutschland und Österreich 60 Originalradierungen anzufertigen, woraus zwei Bände (1877 / 1888) fertig wurden; daneben arbeitete er als Zeichner für die Illustrierte Zeitung, für Gartenlaube, Daheim, Über Land und Meer. Er wurde 1895 an das Städelsche Kunstinstitut nach Frankfurt am Main für eine Professur für Radierkunst berufen und wurde dann zum Direktor ernannt.

Inscribed to the German dermatologist Alwin Scharlau: "Nur für Unterschriftsammlung verwendbar [.]". - Mannfeld, who specialized in etching, focused on landscapes and city views, created celebrated prints of the Cologne and Meißen cathedrals as well as of Cologne and Heidelberg, produced 60 illustr…ations for the 1877 and 1888 work "Durch's deutsche Land", and was appointed professor at the "Städelsches Kunstinstitut" in Frankfurt in 1895. - Postmark on verso slightly showing through; a few small creases. Self-addressed by the collector on the reverse. The Mecklenburg physician Scharlau (b. 1888) assembled a collection of artists' autographs by personal application.
