The memoirs of Jean-Baptiste Antoine Marcelin Marbot, known as Marcellin Marbot, a Fr…ench general famous for his memoirs depicting the Napoleonic age of warfare. Marbot saw battle on many occasions from 1803 to 1815 when he was exiled during the first years of the Bourbon Restoration. He returned to France in 1819 and, due to his intimate relationship with King Louis Philippe I and his son, was promoted to Marechal de Camp during the July Monarchy. Later he was promoted again to Lieutenant-General, and as a member of the Chamber of Peers to the King. Bound in quarter crushed morocco with marbled boards. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spines. The odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor tide marks and age toning to the endpapers. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). book.

Memoirs of the famous Napoleonic general, Marbot (1782-1854) served from 1799 under General Seras, who promoted him to sergeant, reaching second lieutenant, fought with t…he army of Italy in the battle of Marengo and the siege of Genoa. Returning to France he joined the School of Cavalry at Versailles, and served extensively in the Peninsular war, was promoted to colonel, and on the first day of the Battle of Leipzig came close to capturing the Tsar of Russia. He also served in the Battle of Waterloo. Spines slightly faded, some internal foxing, otherwise very good.
